ENVIRONMENTAL BASELINE MONITORING ACTIVITY
Environmental
monitoring forms the basis upon which the effectiveness of the EMP and the implementation
of the EMP are assessed. It also provides the information against which
compliance to the relevant condition and regulations can be checked to identify
areas for improvement.
The baseline result is to
enable comparison with the monitoring result during the duration of the
project. The monitoring was carried out for river water. The locations of the
sampling station are selected to provide the best information on the state of
environment resulting from the Project.
Plate 1: Ambient Air Quality
The air quality monitoring (Total Suspended
Solid, TSP) was conducted using a High Volume Air Sampler in accordance with
Standard Methods of Air Sampling & Analysis, 1991. The air quality monitoring result were compared to the Malaysian Ambient
Air Quality Standards (MAAQS) by Department of Environment (DOE).
Plate 2: Noise Level
The monitoring was conducted
using Noise Level Meter (RION NL42 and NL21) and equipped with tripod/outdoor
gear. The sound level meter was attached to the tripod and needed to be on. The
sound level meter had to be set up before to start the monitoring of noise
level. All sound pressure level quoted in this report are in dB(A) for the
Equivalent Continuous Sound Level (LAeq).
Plate 3: River Water Quality
All physical parameter, namely pH, temperature, dissolved oxygen was
measured in-situ. For other chemical
parameter such as COD, BOD, TSS, heavy metal and oil & grease analysis,
water samples were collected in clean airtight bottles, kept cooled in a cooler
box for temporary storage before being sent to the laboratory analysis. All
sampling and test procedures will be conducted in accordance with APHA Standard Method of Water and Wastewater
Examination. The laboratory analysis
was conducted by the appointed laboratory certified with the Malaysian
Laboratory Accreditation Scheme.
